WWE's official Twitter account is usually reserved for announcements, social media plugs, and other random WWE promotional items.
However, a first-person message about Alberto Del Rio's release was posted on WWE's Twitter account Friday afternoon: "(Del Rio) is responsible for his own actions. If you’re angry at anyone, be angry at Alberto. There’s no excuse for a pro athlete not to conduct themselves in a professional manner."
WWE World champion Alberto Del Rio has been released by WWE, as announced on Thursday.
"WWE announced the release of Alberto Del Rio due to unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee," WWE said Thursday on their website.
WWE did not offer further details or wish Del Rio well in his future endeavors, per the standard release verbiage.
WWE subsequently moved Del Rio's profile to the Alumni section on their website.
Later, former WWE and WCW star Konnan fired back on twitter about Alberto Del Rio's WWE departure and how Rey Mysterio is currently tied up in a contract dispute with the company. Konnan says they would love to have Del Rio in Mexico's AAA promotion and want to talk with him after he's completely free from WWE.
Here are some of Konnan's tweets:
"Should be no surprise what happened to Del Rio..There has always been rampant racism in the industry from subtle to obvious.."
"@WWE u released @RRWWE u f----d @VivaDelRio now #Free @reymysterio"
"Ray deserves more respect, he's given WWE everything bar the kitchen sink #FreeRey"
Konnan also tweeted the WWE.com social media worker that reportedly made a racist remark to Del Rio, leading to Del Rio assaulting him and then being released. Konnan wrote:
"Don't even think by a longshot this is over..#RazaIsWatching"
