WWE exclusive: Shawn Michaels' retirement now considered 'tentative'

The same WWE insider that recently confirmed to Examiner weeks before the bout was confirmed that CM Punk will face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 next month is speaking exclusively with WWE Examiner once again this week. On Thursday, the source indicated that WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels may return to action within the year.

It was March 28, 2010, WWE fans recall. As the sun set on the Arizona desert, the backdrop for WrestleMania 26, some wondered during Shawn Michaels' typical flamboyant entrance if the sun was similarly preparing to set on the Heartbreak Kid's storied career.

WrestleMania 26 closed with what some called the match of the decade: the streak vs. the career. The Undertaker put his never-to-be-duplicated undefeated WrestleMania streak on the line against the promise that Shawn Michaels would retire if he was unable to defeat the Deadman. On that occasion, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker engaged in an epic battle. And it was also the night that Shawn Michaels retired... in the same sense, perhaps, that Ric Flair or Michael Jordan "retired" from their careers.

According to speculation from a source speaking on a basis of anonymity, Shawn Michaels has been approached about headlining WrestleMania 30 next year in New Orleans. Current storyline plans (assuming Michaels will agree to un-retire) call for Mr. WrestleMania, as he is known within the WWE Universe, to face off against either CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, or real-life best friend Triple H himself.

If Triple H were to face Michaels next year, it would likely be his official retirement match.

We may get our best clue as to the future in-ring involvement of Shawn Michaels at next month's WrestleMania in New Jersey. Some believe that Michaels could end up on the pay-per-view in Triple H's corner. Marc Middleton of Wrestling Inc. reported Wednesday that "the current plan is for Triple H to defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 29. The feeling is that he has to win because Lesnar beat him the first time, 'broke his arm' twice and broke Shawn Michaels' arm as well. There has been talk of using Michaels in the storyline again so Michaels can have a WrestleMania role."

At WrestleMania next month, Michaels could either see his feud with Lesnar amplify, or Michaels could pull a shocker and turn on Triple H, setting up a year-long feud culminating at next year's big dance in the Big Easy.

What do you think... will Shawn Michaels return for one final match and not end his career on a loss to The Undertaker?
