WWE crowns new World Champion, signs indie star

Alberto Del Rio won the WWE World Championship last night at the Smackdown tapings in Miami when Del Rio defeated The Big Show in a "last man standing" match.

Del Rio, who was reported as having to deal with "personal issues" has been chasing the World Championship for months having lost a number of matches to then champion Sheamus before finally beating The Big Show.

The Rock was in Miami last night as well and is reported to have received a thunderous ovation which would be different than how he was received the night before in Tampa Bay. The Rock is said to be with the WWE and figures to be part of the TV shows for the next several weeks leading in to his match with CM Punk for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble.

ROH star El Generico is said to have signed a contract with the WWE according to a number of indie sources. El Generico has long garnered attention from the WWE and he is believed to be headed to the NXT developmental program in Florida. Official confirmation of his signing has yet to be announced but is expected.
