WWE Battleground start time and match card

According to a July 20 report from the Baltimore Sun, WWE Battleground is set for tonight in Tampa. The event, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. in the east with a bout between Fandango and Adam Rose, airs on pay-per-view and also the WWE Network. While the first WWE Battleground was widely viewed as a lower-level event than most of the promotion's pay-per-view spectaculars, the WWE deserves serious props for ramping up the card for this year's show.

In the WWE Battleground prelims, which will be part of a kickoff show at 7:30 p.m., Fandango battles Rose and Naomi takes on Cameron in WWE Divas action. Naomi and Cameron are former teammates, so that's an intriguing bout to watch. When the WWE Battleground kicks off at 8 p.m., the opening bout of the night is expected to pit Jack Swagger against Rusev.

Essentially this is a squash match since Rusev is being built up as an unstoppable heel, but Swagger will at least give him a run for his money. The WWE hyped up this feud with a good old fashioned USA vs. Russia angle, with national pride on the line. Elsewhere, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose go head-to-head in singles action. Rollins and Ambrose have the hottest feud going in the WWE right now. Ambrose is still upset with Rollins for splitting up The Shield, so he looks to get revenge at WWE Battleground.

In the swing bout of the WWE Battleground card, Bray Wyatt takes on Chris Jericho in a rematch of an NXT battle from last year. Jericho got the best of Wyatt that night, but that was when the former NXT star was still a young up-and-comer. With Wyatt now basically Jericho's equal, it seems likely that he'll win this time around. Wyatt is one of the most popular superstars in the WWE right now.

Also on the WWE Battleground card, the rest of the Wyatt Family -- Erick Rowan and Luke Harper -- take on The Usos. The Wyatt Family vs. The Usos is a rematch of a Money in the Bank match. In WWE Divas action, AJ Lee is expected to put her title on the line against Paige. Heading into WWE Battleground, the WWE took a strange angle in hyping the Lee vs. Paige feud. They scripted Paige to align herself with Lee a couple weeks ago, so it seemed the two were trying to force a tag-team together.

Paige and Lee are both babyface characters, which means they both get cheered by fans. Perhaps one of them will make a heel turn at WWE Battleground. Otherwise, this booking doesn't make much sense. The WWE Battleground card also includes a 20-Man Battleground Battle Royal for the vacant WWE Intercontinental Championship, and it will feature Kofi Kingston, Rob Van Dam and others. It's expected that Bo Dallas will reign supreme in this contest.

For the WWE Battleground main event, John Cena puts his title on the line against Kane, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns. This one is intriguing because Cena doesn't even need to get pinned in order to lose the belt. However, it's expected that Cena will leave WWE Battleground as champion because it's being hyped that he'll take on Brock Lesnar next month at WWE SummerSlam.
