The WWE Battleground 2014 results and odds winners are in and already wrestling fans are counting down the days until SummerSlam. Early winners included Cameron over Naomi and Adam Rose over Fandango on the 7:30 p.m. pre-show. As the main event started at 8 p.m., the Usos title match against Harper and Rowan was easily the match of the night as it was a “Best of 3 Falls” with each team winning the first two. The third fall had plenty of near finishes, but a double Superfly Splash from The Usos won it.
According to a SB Nation report on July 20, AJ Lee managed to defeat Paige to retain the Divas title thanks to a double running knee at the end. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were originally scheduled to compete but kept fighting before the match, so Triple H ordered Ambrose tossed from the building. Rollins would later try to leave but got attacked again in the parking lot by Ambrose. Eventually Rollins escaped and sped off in his rental car, but he wasn’t around for the rest of the pay-per-view.
Dolph Ziggler looked to be the winner of the Intercontinental Title battle royal, but The Miz wasn’t officially eliminated and snuck into the ring to eliminate Dolph. The Miz is the new Intercontinental Champion.
In the main event, John Cena survived once again as the champion. He ended up hitting an Attitude Adjustment to slam Randy Orton on Kane and then pinned Kane to win the match. Roman Reigns was on the outside of the ring looking in when it happened. With Cena winning, it appears to set him up for a huge match against part-timer Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in August.
Cena was the heavy favorite coming into the Battleground Fatal Fourway at 2/1 odds. Odds for SummerSlam 2014 should be out within the next two weeks.
