The WWE 2K14 video game has received a rating from the ESRB and that new rating will be Rated Teen. According to Rajah on Aug. 26, the reason for the Teen rating is because of violence, references to alcohol, language, blood and sexual themes.
The WWE 2K14 game features both wrestlers from the present era of the WWE as well as wrestlers from throughout the history of Wrestlemania for a "30 Years of Wrestlemania" special storyline. In that mode, a player plays through the biggest moments in Wrestlemania history.
The alcohol references are clearly a nod to Stone Cold Steve Austin. The summary includes a shirt that references beer, the iconic "beer truck" spraying scene, characters drinking from beer cans and the use of the middle finger. These are all obviously for players playing as Steve Austin.
The addition of blood is another welcome addition for old-school WWE fans. The new PG rated WWE on TV will not show blood unless it is accidental. While more has been seen lately, the WWE still refuses to allow too much of it to protect their PG rating and their advertising dollars. However, the blood will be in the game.
The violence is basic WWE violence, while the summary includes the use of punching and kicking, as well as the use of weapons such as chairs, tables, sledgehammers and more. The sexuality includes cleavage and provocative gestures, including what sounds like the bronco buster.
