West Virginia Baptist Pastor Jeff Owens is caught on tape thrilling a church full of Christians with the most obnoxious and vile homophobic hate speech. The rant is disgusting, and exemplifies the very worst of Christianity in America.

Jeff Owens currently leads the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church located in a part of West Virginia that serves as a suburb of Washington D.C.

On the video Pastor Owens states the following:

We need to stop burning flags and start burning fags. We need hunt-a-homo week. We need to take 'em all out and shoot 'em with a scatter shotgun: that's Christian compassion for you all right...

Dan Savage reports:

In this sermon Pastor Owens lovingly and compassionately calls on his flock to terrorize and murder gays and lesbians.

For all you moderate Christians offended by this sort of thing—by Owens' sermon, by my posting about it—if you want to tell anyone that Owens doesn't speak for all Christians, go tell Owens. I'm sick of hearing it, frankly, and Owens needs to hear it. And you can reach Pastor Compassion at...

Savage is correct. Moderate Christians need to stand up to this kind of hatred. Simply claiming that Owens does not represent their kind of Christianity, or claiming Owens really isn't a Christian, fails to do the trick. Christians ought to contact Owens, and tell him he is wrong. Christians ought to walk their talk.

Warning: Video contains graphic hate speech

Mindblowing! Great article. I sat through an hour of his jibberish and almost got sick. In that sermon he made clear that "no one should harm queers or their property." While the one I listened to was far less evil, it was still revolting.

Thanks for this report. It's hard to believe anyone human could say things like that. Namaste.

Yeah, that's obviously not Christian conduct. No matter how much someone offends you, murdering them is not the answer.

Sounds like the pastor is a closet gay himself but won't admit it.
