Jordan Oliver and Tad Merritt remain the "Most Dominant" college wrestlers in NCAA Division I and II, while T.J. Wunnicke has replaced Jules Doliscar in D3, according to the latest rankings released by the NCAA Wednesday.
Wunnicke, who wrestles at 133 pounds for University of Wisconsin-Platteville, is now the most dominant wrestler in Division III, with 5.1002 points, according to statistics as of Feb. 8. Doliscar, 174-pounder from Ithaca who had held that position since the NCAA had started announcing the weekly stats earlier this year, is now tied for second place with Elmhurst College 184-pounder Josef Rau.
Oklahoma State's Oliver, defending 2011 NCAA champ at 133, remains "Most Dominant" in Division I for the second week in a row, with 5.3529 points. In Division II, Merritt of St. Cloud State maintains his hold on the award with 5.1176 points.
For the Most Dominant Wrestler Award, the NCAA developed a point system, based on match results. This week's rankings are based on at least 16 matches, within the division of the wrestler's school. To qualify for the final awards -- to be presented at the respective NCAA championships starting this year -- a wrestler would have had to compete in at least 18 matches within his school's division.
The new Most Dominant Wrestler Award is one of three results-based awards for individual wrestlers -- along with most pins, and the most technical falls -- announced by the NCAA Rules Committee last December for all three divisions.
