Chicago kids and their parents can have free outdoor musical fun this summer by attending performances of the WTTW Kids Readers Are Leaders Tour. Kids ages 3 to 8 and their families are invited to sing along and enjoy interactive storytelling while practicing literacy skills.

Readers Are Leaders Summer Tour activities

Preschoolers and early elementary students will benefit from coming to these fun summer events. The first 200 children to arrive at each free performance will be given a goody bag full of surprises, including a free children's book.

Miss Lori, the PBS Kids host from Chicago, will entertain and teach children with a special Playstory Time in which she mixes storytelling and her original songs. Mr. Brandon will lead his own story time sessions.

Readers Are Leaders Summer Tour schedule

The WTTW Kids Readers Are Leaders Summer Tour will travel around Chicagoland zoos, museums, and other attractions from May until September.

May dates and locations:

  • Sunday, May 24 at 12:00 p.m. at the Kohl's Children Museum in Glenview.
  • Sunday, May 31 at 11:30 a.m. at the Westfield Hawthorn Shopping Center (indoors) in Vernon Hills.

June dates and locations:

  • Sunday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield.
  • Sunday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.
  • Sunday, June 21 at 12:00 p.m. at the Kohl's Children Museum in Glenview.
  • Friday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield.

July dates and locations:

  • Sunday, July 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.
  • Sunday, July 12 at 12:00 p.m. at the DuSable Museum in Chicago.
  • Friday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m. the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.
  • Friday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield.

August dates and locations:

  • Sunday, August 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Adventist La Grange Hospital in La Grange.
