Wrong woman buried ... sounds like a bad joke in a movie, doesn't it? Well, in Calif., the wrong woman was buried thanks to a mix-up by a mortuary. On March 12, My Fox 8 reported that Evans Davidson was beyond surprised when he attended his wife's wake and saw that the woman in the casket wasn't his wife. The morticians believed that the body was his wife and convinced the Davidson family that it was. It wasn't until days later that the mix-up was admitted.
Evans Davidson, 73, received a phone call a few days after his wife's funeral. Apparently there was another family who claimed "a body switch." Davidson's wife, Darlene, was still at the mortuary... and another woman was buried in her grave.
The wrong woman buried in the wrong grave will likely be exhumed. The mortuary has offered to cover all of the costs for both families and has offered both of them to have proper funeral services -- with the correct deceased relative. A spokesman for the mortuary has apologized to both families and says that they are determined to make things right.
"In this case, there was an error made and we are diligently working with both families to be in resolve," said Reginald Black, a spokesman for the mortuary (via CBS LA). Naturally losing a wife, a mother, or a dear friend is very hard. This mix-up has made things even more difficult for the families. They should be spending this time grieving and healing but instead they are dealing with this crazy mix-up.
Since the wrong woman was buried, an investigation has been launched by the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau.
