A woman who was allegedly driving drunk on the interstate was arrested Sunday for leaving the scene of a multi-vehicle wreck on I-85 in Gwinnett County.
Ms. Alysha Harvin, of Jonesboro, was charged with driving under the influence, hit and run, reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road, according to Gwinnett County police.
At 3:58 a.m., officers responded to the I-85 where they discovered a wreck involving several vehicles.
A witness told police a green car was heading south in the northbound lane, causing an SUV to flip over after the driver saw the oncoming vehicle, Sgt. Brian Doan said.
“The vehicle continued traveling south and another motorist flipped his SUV, just south of Pleasant Hill Road, when he saw the violator traveling south in the north bound lanes,” Sgt. Doan said.
The driver of a black car, which was behind the SUV, was forced to hit his brakes.
“The car was then struck from behind, by a gray SUV, which forced the black car to the right, causing it to strike a red pick-up truck,” Sgt. Doan said. “The red pick-up truck was spun counter clockwise.”
In the meantime, the gray SUV went to the left and struck the red pick-up truck as it was spinning counter clockwise.
Minutes later, officers found the wrong-way driver just south of Steve Reynolds Boulevard and placed her under arrest, Sgt. Doan said.
“The driver blew a .158 and .159 when she submitted to the breath test,” he said.
