Writing my Radio Play-Part 2: Creating the Wacky Celebrities!!!

Last week, I gave you all a glimpse of how my new radio play was created. This week, I’m back again with more on the development of my radio play; this time it’s how the various celebrities in the show were created. When making this show, I wanted the celebrities/party guests to be so unbelievably, unthinkably wild that the 4 friends would have one hell of a time putting up with their crazy antics. Taking liberty with their personalities, I envisioned each member of In Living Color taking on a role based on their interests, ages, and other factors.

I began by compiling a list of the various celebrities that would become key players in the show. From Meryl Streep to Susan Boyle to Britney Spears, each celebrity would be an individual with their own personalities. Some would be leaders, others would be followers, yet others would just be there for comedic reasons. Each member of In Living Color, as well as others outside of the group would have the ideal facets to play each role, so each part was constructed with a specific person in mind.

Some of these casting choices came to fruition; others didn’t. For instance, while group member Kierra was my first choice to play ditzy neighborhood leader Britney Spears, the idea of casting Emily’s son as the somewhat unusually obedient rocker Marilyn Manson didn’t quite work out. Other characters such as handsome country singer Luke Bryan and an angry Justin Bieber were added in later and have been cast with some wonderful players who are a true delight to work with!

Stay tuned for Part 3: behind the music. Feel free to comment below using your Facebook and/or Twitter account(s).
