EMP hosts writing contest for Seattle kids

If you have a budding young writer in your life check out this great opportunity! Seattle’s EMP and Jack Straw Productions are hosting their third annual original story contest for kiddos in grades 3-12.

Categories:
The Write Out of this World contest is for Sci-Fi and/or Fantasy stories

Story Type and Deadline:
Short story consisting between 200 and 2000 words needs to be submitted by January 31, 2013. Winners to be announced on March 1, 2013.

Spilling Ink: A Young Writer's Handbook

Divisions:
3rd-5th, 6th-8th and 9th-12th

Judges:
The stories will be read by a panel of experts including professional writers, Seattle community leaders and EMP curators.

Rip the Page!: Adventures in Creative Writing

Prizes:
First, second and third place authors in each of the three age divisions will have their books made into an audio book! To assure their books are amazing: the nine winners will participate in workshops with Jack Straw Productions' art professionals along with one-on-one coaching from both vocal and writing coaches.

An awards ceremony will be held at the EMP's Sky Church on April 20, 2013 where each of the winners will read excerpts from their stories.

How to Enter:
Students need to email their titled stories along with their full name, grade and school to this address: Education@EMPmuseum.org: If the author is home-schooled simply list that in place of a school name.
