WritersWeekly 24-hour short story writing contest

One of the most popular writing ezines, WritersWeekly.com, is hosting another of their quarterly 24-hour short story writing contests. The contest starts April 24, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. central time.

  •  First Place: $300 cash prize
  • Second Place: $250 cash prize
  • Third Place: $200 cash prize

First through Third Place also receive publication of their winning entries on WritersWeekly’s website and the WritersWeekly Freelance Income Kit.

There will also be honorable mentions and door prizes distributed at random among participants.

The entry fee is $5. Only the first 500 participants are accepted. WritersWeekly currently reports that registration has already reached 60%.

Please note the story prompt and word count requirements will not be released until the contest begins.

The Writer’s Loft: Helmed by the famed Jerry Cleaver, author of Immediate Fiction and Professor of Professional Fiction at Northwestern University.

StoryStudio Chicago: StoryStudio’s mission is to “foster confidence and creativity in writing and storytelling through teaching, discussion, performance and community building. Writers and performers of all levels—from beginners to professionals—are invited to participate.”

Neighborhood Writing Alliance: The Neighborhood Writing Alliance holds several weekly writing workshops in neighborhoods across the city. Registration is free.

NewTown Writers: NewTown is a gay and lesbian writers group with regular workshops every two weeks. Registration is free.

TheUndeniables.org is an online critique group for those with restricted schedules who may not have the time to participate in a conventional classroom workshop. Registration is free. Wordpress account required.
