Scott O'Connor, a 1992 Cicero-North Syracuse High School graduate and author of a new novel, Untouchable (Tyrus Books, $24.95), that's been dazzling critics, joins Syracuse poet Nate Pritts, founder and editor of H_NGM_N literary journal and author of a new poetry volume, Big Bright Sun (BlazeVOX, $12), in a benefit reading and signing at 7 p.m. today (July 14, 2011), at Cafe at 407 on Tulip Street in Liverpool. All proceeds from book sales at tonight's event will go directly to Ophelia's Place, the non-profit organization that manages the cafe and offers support for people with eating disorders.
In a review, The New York Times praises O'Connor for telling "a wisp of a story, but in a voice so insistently stirring, you want to lean in close to catch every word." And Barnes & Noble included Untouchable in its Discover Great New Writers Summer 2011 Picks, calling the novel "tender, haunting and exquisitely profound." O'Connor runs a post-production and motion graphics design firm in Los Angeles, where he lives with his family.
Pritts is the author of several full-length poetry collections, including Sensational Spectacular (2007), Honorary Astronaut (2008) and The Wonderfull Yeare: a shepherd’s calendar (2010). He has taught business writing and communication, creative writing for talented high school students, and workshops for the Downtown Writer’s Center/YMCA in Syracuse.
