Every other year the Oklahoma Writers Hall of Fame inducts a distinguished writer from Oklahoma. This year’s induction ceremony honoring veteran children and young adult author Anna Myers will be held Thursday, November 7 at 7pm at the OSU-Tulsa Auditorium.
Myers is the author of many novels for young people. Most of her books are historical fiction. She has received four Oklahoma Book Awards, New York Public Library’s Best Books for the Teenaged, New York Public Library’s Best 100 Books to Read and Share and many more awards, and her books are included on more than twenty children’s choice lists for various states.
In addition to recognizing Myers’ contributions to young adult literature organizers will be paying a special tribute to Oklahoma songwriter and musician Woody Guthrie. Author Michael Wallis and Nora Guthrie (Woody's daughter) will be doing the tribute. The special guest who will perform Guthrie’s songs is scholar/performer Will Kaufman. Several past Hall of Famers will be there, including groundbreaking young adult paranormal author P. C. Cast, who writes the House of Night series with her daughter Kristin and the popular Goddess Summoning books.
Teresa Miller, director of the Center for Poets and Writers, says the evening will also be dedicated to Joanie Stephenson, owner of the Tulsa landmark bookstore Steve's Sundry, Books & Magazines, which will close at the end of the year.
Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online at myticketoffice.com or in person at the Tulsa PAC box office. For phone orders call 918-596-7111. Special discounts are available for students, teachers, and Center members.
