The Mid-Michigan Writers are hosting their ninth annual Gateway to Writing workshop in Standish, Mich. on Sept. 28, according to The Arenac County Independent on Sept. 26. Any writer is welcome and is encouraged to attend and participate no matter their style, ability and genre.
The Gateway to Writing workshop will be held at the Northeast Michigan Arts Center from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Even though the event is hosted by Mid-Michigan Writers, one does not have to be a member of the writers club to attend the event. “This is open to the public, and we have people from all over the place that come – from downstate, upstate, wherever,” says event coordinator, Chris Lucka.
The 9 a.m. workshop will begin with a speech from Marla Kay Houghteling. Houghteling, of Harbor Springs, has published two books of poetry and is currently working on a novel. After the speech, Houghteling will hold a workshop session.
A second workshop session is scheduled to be held with Angela Cook-Hoekwater who is a flash fiction writer.
The workshop costs $25 for the day and includes lunch catered by North Forest Cafe. For more information contact Chris Lucka at 989-846-8211.
