D’Andre Wright’s efforts against UTEP were impressive. Impressive enough to draw the attention of Conference USA, which announced him as the league Freshman of the Week Monday. It is the first weekly conference award for Wright.
The Lawton Eisenhower product had a top-notch performance when he scored 25 points in Tulsa’s 74-70 win at UTEP Saturday night. It was the first time since December he had significant playing time.
Wright had previously been limited by a leg injury he incurred in December. But on Saturday, having recovered, he played for 21 minutes, shot 9-of-12 field goals and was 7-of-10 in free throws for the Golden Hurricane against the Miners.
With the win, TU ended a three-game losing streak.
Against UAB on Wednesday, Wright only played 10 minutes, having grabbed three defensive rebounds.
The Golden Hurricane meets Houston at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Reynolds Center. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Network.
