Wright wins annual 600 Club event; Valentine Mixed Doubles is Sunday

Nicole Wright emerged as the winner of the third annual Sarasota-Manatee Women's 600 Club tournament, contested on a 7-8-9 handicap no-tap format at AMF Gulf Gate Lanes last Sunday.

With the opening game being a 7-pin no-tap, the middle game an 8-pin no-tap and the final game a 9-pin no-tap, Wright posted a 947 handicap score to prevail by a 10-pin margin over runner-up Cee Butler, who had a 937 pinfall.

Third place went to Dottie Ceurter with 914, while other cashers were Joanne Cisler with 892 and Gail Fargo with 886.

Because so many perfect no-tap games were rolled, the individual high single-game prizes went to the next-highest scores under the 300 threshold. Peggy Parker picked up high scratch-game recognition with 295, while Barb Ripley had the highest scratch series with 818.

As a novelty of sorts, the event paid low-score "honors" to Lynn Callaghan for a 149 game and Gloria Bouch for a 487 series.

Valentine Mixed Doubles at AMF Bradenton

AMF Bradenton Lanes will be the site of the second annual Bill Wenzel Valentine Handicap Mixed Doubles tournament, with squads set at noon and 3 p.m. Sunday.

All doubles teams must consist of one male and one female, and walk-in entries will be accepted at a cost of $50 per team.

Optional scratch and handicap singles will be available at a cost of $10 per entry, or $20 to enter both scratch and handicap singles, and virtual scoring will be used for the singles competition. Handicap will be on a 90 percent of 220 basis, and brackets will be available.

The tourney is an annual fund-raiser conducted by the Sarasota-Manatee County Men's Bowling Hall of Fame, and $5 per bowler per event will be earmarked for the Hall.
