On Friday, April 5th, Matt McCoy of WRGV-FM (107.3; licensed to Pensacola, Florida) appeared in the radio studio of WKSJ-FM (94.9) to help Dan Brennan, a morning radio announcer for WKSJ-FM, host "The Weekend Buzz" segment of the local news program WKRG-TV produced between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. while Shelby Mitchell, another morning radio announcer for WKSJ-FM, was unavailable to help host the segment due to her recent trip to Key West, Florida, according to her personal Facebook page (WKRG-TV, WKSJ-FM, and WRGV-FM were broadcasting from the same building in Mobile).
After Matt McCoy finished describing some of the local events scheduled for the following weekend as part of the segment, he introduced a cardboard figure of Devon Walsh, a morning news presenter for WKRG-TV, he brought into the radio studio in honor of her recent birthday on Tuesday, April 2nd, and as part of a publicity stunt to help the official Facebook page for WRGV-FM have a total of 5000 followers by encouraging local Internet users to become followers of the page (by selecting the "like button" on the page) if they were not followers all ready. Matt McCoy said he would keep the cardboard figure away from WKRG-TV until the official Facebook page for WRGV-FM has a total of 5000 followers.
Devon Walsh the person was not available to introduce "The Weekend Buzz" segment with Matt McCoy since she was given time off from the station on the day of the segment. While she was away, Bill Riales, her regular partner for WKRG-TV's morning newscasts, was available to introduce the segment and witness the publicity stunt by Matt McCoy. By the end of the segment, Bill Riales told to the segment that Devon Walsh actually "hated" the cardboard figure of herself and said it was his big secret.
