Wrestler of the Week, May 19 - 25

Welcome to year four of Wrestler of the Week. Much like the previous three years this will continue to be a little way to highlight an individual (or tag team as the case may be) that had a particularly banner week in terms of storyline or on-air achievement. Just like in previous years, in addition to highlighting a Wrestler of Week, two honorable mentions will also be noted. Throughout the year point totals will be tallied. Just like in year three, each week 10 points will go to the actual Wrestler of the Week, 5 points going to the first Honorable Mention and 3 going to the second Honorable Mention. At the end of the year a Wrestler of the Year will be crowned.

Wrestler of the Week

This past weekend, CHIKARA returned after year plus long absence. They returned in spectacular fashion with Sunday night’s You Only Live Twice iPPV. In the night’s main event, Icarus defeated Eddie Kingston to become CHIKARA’s second ever Grand Champion. Icarus went from one of the most hated wrestlers in CHIKARA’s history to its new face with this victory.

Honorable Mention

Kyle O’Reilly

The independent wrestling standout had another banner week. On May 23, he defeated his former tag team partner Adam Cole to win the PWG Heavyweight Championship in a Knockouts or Submissions Match. O’Reilly is now the new face of PWG, in addition to one half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions.

Alicia Fox

For the second week in row, Alicia Fox got a chance to shine on WWE TV. She defeated WWE Divas Champion Paige in a non-title match on Monday Night RAW. It was easily her most high profile win in years. Then post-match she orchestrated a wild victory celebration that included stealing Jerry “The King” Lawler’s crown and pouring soda all over herself.
