Wrestler of the Week, January 6 - 12

Welcome to year four of Wrestler of the Week. Much like the previous three years this will continue to be a little way to highlight an individual (or tag team as the case may be) that had a particularly banner week in terms of storyline or on-air achievement. Just like in previous years, in addition to highlighting a Wrestler of Week, two honorable mentions will also be noted. Throughout the year point totals will be tallied. Just like in year three, each week 10 points will go to the actual Wrestler of the Week, 5 points going to the first Honorable Mention and 3 going to the second Honorable Mention. At the end of the year a Wrestler of the Year will be crowned.

Wrestler of the Week

Roman Reigns

The enforcer of The Shield had a banner week starting out 2014. On the special Old School edition of Monday Night RAW, hew got the coveted main event spot and pinned CM Punk in a one-on-one match. He also got to stand toe-to-toe mid-ring with Rowdy Roddy Piper in the legendary Piper’s Pit. Then on SmackDown he teamed with his Shield brothers Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to defeat Punk and The New Age Outlaws (The Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) in a fun six-man tag match, with Reigns picking up the pinfall over Gunn.

Honorable Mention

Jake “The Snake” Roberts

In one of the most legitimately shocking surprising in recent WWE history, Jake “The Snake” Roberts walked out during the closing moments of Old School RAW and helped CM Punk dispose of The Shield. Dean Ambrose even got to take the old school python treatment from Revelations, or whatever the snake’s name was. Roberts looked healthy and amazing and was truly rewarded with love from the live crowd. Jake “The Snake” Roberts is truly a beautiful story of redemption, and he has already notched his nomination for Comeback of the Year for 2014.

The Young Bucks

The brother tandem of Nick & Matt Jackson had a big weekend in EVOLVE Wrestling. On EVOLVE 25 on Friday night, the duo teamed with Rich Swann to beat The Bravado Brothers and Johnny Gargano in a six-man tag. The next night the duo beat Swann and Chuck Taylor in a traditional tag bout. Then on Sunday night at EVOLVE 27, The Jacksons attacked Open The United Gate Champions Harlem and Lancelot Bravado and staked their claim as the number one contenders to the Tag Championships. The high-flying brothers had a great 2013 and are starting 2014 the right way.
