Welcome to year three of Wrestler of the Week. Much like the previous two years this will continue to be a little way to highlight an individual (or tag team as the case may be) that had a particularly banner week in terms of storyline or on-air achievement. Just like in previous years, in addition to highlighting a Wrestler of Week, two honorable mentions will also be noted. Throughout the year point totals will be tallied, and they have been enhanced for year three. Each week 10 points will go to the actual Wrestler of the Week, 5 points going to the first Honorable Mention and 3 going to the second Honorable Mention. At the end of the year a Wrestler of the Year will be crowned.
Wrestler of the Week
King defeated Rob Van Dam this past Thursday night live on TNA Impact Wrestling. It finally validated King’s decision to jump from Ring of Honor to TNA last summer.
Honorable Mention
Matt Taven
The virtually unknown Ring of Honor undercard wrestler made himself a star this past weekend. At Saturday night’s 11th Anniversary Show Internet pay per view, Taven defeated Adam Cole to win the ROH Television Championship, thanks to interference from his manager Truth Martini. The rising star is now poised to breakout as a major talent on the independent scene in 2013.
The two WWE main event stars proved why they are in the position they are in this past week on Monday Night RAW. In the main event the two battled to determined who would challenge The Rock for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXIX. What followed was a 20-minute free TV classic that saw John Cena emerge victorious and stake his claim for WrestleMania. It was an amazing one-on-one main event match that will certainly be talked about at the end of 2013 when talking of free TV matches of the year.
Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly…While these two men won’t earn any points here, they deserve kudos for defeating Jay & Mark Briscoe at ROH’s 11th Anniversary Show to win the ROH World Tag Team Championships.
