Welcome to year three of Wrestler of the Week. Much like the previous two years this will continue to be a little way to highlight an individual (or tag team as the case may be) that had a particularly banner week in terms of storyline or on-air achievement. Just like in previous years, in addition to highlighting a Wrestler of Week, two honorable mentions will also be noted. Throughout the year point totals will be tallied, and they have been enhanced for year three. Each week 10 points will go to the actual Wrestler of the Week, 5 points going to the first Honorable Mention and 3 going to the second Honorable Mention. At the end of the year a Wrestler of the Year will be crowned.
Wrestler of the Week
“The Real American” has come out of nowhere to once again become a player in WWE. After taking nearly six months off to recharge, Swagger has come back with a harder attitude, and a new manager in Zeb Coulter. He then took all this newfound momentum into last night’s Elimination Chamber pay per view and outlasted five other former World Champions to punch his ticket for WrestleMania, where he will now challenge World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio for the Championship. Look for big things out of Swagger in 2013.
Honorable Mention
Also at the Elimination Chamber, the trio of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns defeated three of WWE’s biggest superstars in John Cena, Sheamus and Ryback in a six-man tag match. The Shield has been heavily protected and are treated like huge deals in every appearance. It is obvious the company is high on these three young men and their future looks bright.
The reigning and defending WWE Champion defeated CM Punk last night at Elimination Chamber to settle their rivalry and punch his ticket for WrestleMania XXIX, where he will no go on to meet John Cena in a rematch for the ages.
