On Monday morning, WWE made the announcement a lot of wrestling fans were almost expecting. WrestleMania XXX is headed to New Orleans in 2014.
The annual pay-per-view extravaganza, slated for April 6, 2014, will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. WWE held a huge press conference on Monday, as WWE CEO Vince McMahon offered a few words about what holding the event means to everybody involved:
WrestleMania is a celebration, it's what we do. People from all over the world come to New Orleans and they're going to celebrate the grandeur, the spectacular nature of WrestleMania. That's what WrestleMania is, and there's no town in the world that personifies celebration more than New Orleans. I believe there's an expression you use here in New Orleans...I will NOT attempt to say it in French, but let the good times roll.
McMahon was joined by a number of WWE stars including John Cena, The Big Show, World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio, and WWE Champion The Rock. Both Cena and Rock, who will face off at this year's WrestleMania, echo the same feelings about WrestleMania XXX. It will definitely be a phenomenal weekend for fans and superstars alike.
Outside of WrestleMania XXX itself, the entire weekend is set to be monumental. WrestleMania Axxess, the annual four-day fan festival, will take place at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. Also set for the weekend will be the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, taking place the night before WrestleMania.
Tickets for the event and the schedule for the entire four-day weekend will be released later this year. But for many fans in Texas, this will be the closest WrestleMania has been since the 25th Anniversary was held at Reliant Stadium in Houston in 2009.
