Wrestlemania 29 at a glance: Part 1

Let's be honest. Wrestlemania is as geeky and fictional as anything else, so here we go.

The first hour is really nothing more than an elongated snack and bathroom break. The Miz defeats Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental title. Eh. The Shield (Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns) versus Sheamus, Randy Orton, and The Big Show. Orton gets pinned bu the real casualty here is The Big Show for having to even be in this silly match. Rightfully so, he knocked out his teammates for not being any darned good.

Next up was Ryback against Mark Henry. Henry hasn't been entertaining at any point in his decade and a half in WWE. D Generation-X's “Mizark” routine was the closest and that was in mocking him. Ryback is nothing but a destitute man's Goldberg. Goldberg never would have crumpled beneath the weight of Mark Henry's carcass.

If Dolph Ziggler is going to insist on being a “Show-off”, he should at least make sure that he isn't close to seriously injuring someone because of in-ring incompetence. Daniel Bryan, one of the few new generation wrestlers with any skill in WWE, doesn't really belong in this match against Ziggler and some generic guy. His pairing with Kane as at least been a fun mismatch. Ziggler getting the business end of two finishers was quite satisfying.

Who on Earth is Fandango? Someone should get this guy a movie ticket out of here. The match itself wasn't bad but no way Jericho should have lost to the new version of Disco Inferno. The next match for the World Heavyweight crown is a huge statement of the lack of talent on the Smackdown roster. Both Jack Swagger and Alberto del Rio are sound mat technicians but the whole race war angle wasn't done in any kind of imaginative way. Del Rio takes out the trash while we await the real cards.
