"Wrecking Ball" sales and popularity has gone through the roof for Miley Cyrus. On Sept. 18, 2013, the 20-year-old pop star tweeted, "#1 on Billboard. #1 on iTunes. #1 on Spotify. #1 on Streaming. #1 on Digital songs. #1 most added to pop radio. #1 on VEVO. #WreckingBall."
Therefore, the question becomes, was Cyrus' performance at the VMAs a good thing or a bad thing? Sure her twerking behavior, in front of 36-year-old Robin Thicke, complete with a nude colored bikini, her tongue hanging out and a big foam finger, was highly controversial, resulting in at least 160 FCC complaints. However, would "Wrecking Ball" sales and popularity be as high as it is without that performance?
Like it or not, Cyrus is more popular than she's ever been. It also helps that the singer, who recently broke-up with on-again, off-again boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, is very active on Twitter. As of this writing, she has over 13 million followers and tweets on a daily basis to her fans.
