As I mentioned in a previous article, there are World Poker Tour Amateur Poker League (WPTAPL) events held at the Buffalo Wild Wings in FIshers and Castleton. I went to the event in Castleton this past wednesday, and finished 5th in the first tournament (not bad for a newbie).
If you haven't played many live tournaments, these WPTAPL events can help teach you how to act, play, and experience a live event. At this particular event, the whole poker experience was good at best. There were poker players who folded their hands in the big blinds without any raise occurring, a particularly bold strategy in winning at poker. The people at the Castleton WPTAPL event were very encouraging and welcoming a new player to the event. This group has played with each other for a while now, so there were no hard feelings for bad beats, or temper-tantroms when they were railed. Of course, there are always those players who think they know EVERYTHING about poker, and will point out all your mistakes, but those people are a given at any poker tournaments.
Overall, this WPTAPL event that is heald at the Castleton Buffalo Wild Wings was very intriguing. Poker players in the Indianapolis area would benefit greatly from the experience that these events provide, such as live tells from players, the betting order (harder than you think if you are use to the online interface telling you when its time to bet),
