According to the TV programming guides for WPMI-TV provided by Zap2it, TitanTV, and TV Guide, the station had a plan to broadcast live sports programming from Cox Sports Television on Friday, August 16th, between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and a plan to broadcast the network programs the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) would provide through their live network feed during that time period later between 1:35 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. in the order they would be provided (WPMI-TV's programming between 1:05 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. from Tuesday through Saturday usually included a rebroadcast of the latest edition of the syndicated entertainment news program "Entertainment Tonight" at 1:05 a.m., a recording of their latest local 10:00 p.m. newscast at 1:35 a.m., the syndicated business news program "First Business" at 2:05 a.m., segments from the final hour of the latest edition of the network news program "Today" at 2:35 a.m., and the network financial advice program "Mad Money" at 3:30 a.m.).
The live programming WPMI-TV had planned on broadcasting between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 pm was expected to include a live professional football game scheduled to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, with the Saints of New Orleans and the Raiders of Oakland, California (the live programming from Cox Sports Television that WPMI-TV broadcast last Friday, August 9th, included a live football game with the Saints also).
WPMI-TV also planned on broadcasting a recording of the local news program they would broadcast after the sports programming at 1:05 a.m. instead of the timeslot they normally used for rebroadcasting their local 10:00 p.m. news program (1:35 a.m.) from Tuesday through Saturday since they had planned to start broadcasting pre-empted programs from NBC at that time.
(note: the article about WPMI-TV's previous plans that involved pre-empting network programs from NBC and broadcasting live programming from Cox Sports Television was corrected due to an error regarding the timeslot in which they usually rebroadcast the latest edition of "Entertainment Tonight" from Tuesday through Saturday. The timeslot of 1:35 a.m. was given by mistake)
