Ever since the previous calendar week, news presenters for WPMI-TV have promoted the station as an advocate against government corruption by encouraging viewers and listeners of their station's local news programs to dial a specific telephone number (1-877-315-7268) to report any "wrong doings", "scams", or abuses of tax money for a project they called "Reality Check" (the same telephone number was used for the "Rants & Raves" segments produced for station's local 10:00 p.m. news programs for Monday through Friday). The project was also promoted in an advertisement broadcast during commercial breaks for the station's regular programs.
Before the "Reality Check" project was started, similar projects were created for other stations managed by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, including WEAR-TV in the Mobile, Alabama-Pensacola, Florida TV market (see article suggested below this article for more details on the relationship between WPMI-TV and WEAR-TV). The project for WEAR-TV was titled "Waste Watch" (you may visit the "Waste Watch" section of the official World Wide Web site for WEAR-TV for reports generated by the project).
