Who would have thought that in the dog days of summer, West Palm Beach would offer so many events promoting sustainability? Here’s a quick rundown of the be-there-or-be-square fare happening in the coming days and weeks:

  • A.C.T. for Wildlife (Saturday, August 9, 10 a.m. – 11.a.m.) – The A.C.T. stands for Alternative Clean Transportation. Bike, walk, carpool with friends, or ride transit to the Palm Beach Zoo, and you’ll get half off the price of admission. The Zoo is offering free bicycle valet parking and free bike helmets and fitting for the first 150 guests. Complete your “Passport to Transportation” and earn prizes, and learn ways to help the environment and wildlife during your commute. For more information, click here.
  • Resource Depot’s Back-to-School Block Party (Saturday, August 16, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.) – Everyone’s invited! There will be free entertainment and children’s activities, an art bike raffle, and free bike safety checks. Meet Super Why! From PBS Kids and shop eco- and wallet-friendly school and art supplies.

Plus, as a special treat for teachers, you can also win a bag of new school supplies, giveaways and coupons from the Spare One for Teachers School Supply Drive. To learn more, click here.

Resource Depot is a nonprofit center for creative reuse that diverts clean, safe reusable materials which would otherwise be headed for landfills and, instead, put them into the hands of people who can use them.

The party takes place at 2410 Florida Avenue in West Palm Beach. For more details, click here.

  • e4 Business Forum (August TBD) As part of the City of West Palm Beach’s 2014 Sustainability Summit Series, business owners and entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to learn more about climate change and how their organizations can help “Rethink Paradise.” Check here for more details as they become available.
