In all the various tales of zombie apocalypse, humans have usually had one thing in their favor: zombies are very s-l-o-w. Relentless, of course – but slow enough that the sheer force of numbers created suspense, as opposed to certain massacre.
In the new World War Z movie trailer, that last vestige of hope has been taken from the doubly-wise man. The undead are blazingly fast – reminiscent, in fact, of the vampiric undead in 2007s I Am Legend (starring Hollywood A-lister Will Smith) – and they come in what can only be described as monstrous numbers.
World War Z stars another Hollywood A-lister in Brad Pitt, who is a man on a mission to try and save his family and the quickly-dwindling number of homo sapiens. From the trailer, the zombies are almost too fast, which ought to make for some heart-pounding onscreen excitement when it opens in theaters this summer.
In World War Z, Pitt plays UN employee Gerry Lane, who goes from a normal, happy mid-morning breakfast with the family to news of the looming apocalypse on television. He will end up playing a pivotal role (obviously, right!??) in traveling the globe on helicopters and aircraft carriers, as he tries to figure out how to stem the zombie tide. It also stars actor David Morse a ex-CIA, Matthew Fox and actress Mireille Enos as Brad Pitt’s onscreen wife and mother of two.

World War Z is based on the hugely popular book by author Max Brooks, which was released in 2007. It is slated for release as one of the summer blockbusters on June 21, 2013.
