Tomorrow at the Life Arts Center in Riverside Room To Dance celebrates the opening of its sister dance studio dedicated to world dance forms. April MacLean partners up with dance artist Julie Simon for the opening of a second studio: World To Dance. Simon is a native Californian who has been dancing professionally for the past twenty years touring nationally and internationally. She started her company Tropicaleiza, an Afro-Samba Dance Company in 2006.
This is a big celebration for the two women. MacLean just commemorated the one-year anniversary of her studio in downtown Riverside.
MacLean's vision was to provide a place for adults in the community to study dance. Typically the local studio caters toward classes for children and Room To Dance brought a much needed haven to the local scene. After one year the studio is thriving and she and Simon are ready to open doors just down the street. World To Dance will focus on genres such as Capoeira, Samba, and Salsa.
Room To Dance will continue to offer such classes as Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, and Ballroom. Check out the web-site for an updated schedule at www.roomtodance.com.
The grand opening will begin at 2pm, January 5, 2012, and is free and open to the public. There will be class demonstrations and performances and the opportunity to taste foods from around the globe. DJ Mike Styles will be providing world beat at the event.
If you are looking for something to do this weekend, stop by the Life Arts Center and World To Dance, and enjoy an afternoon of community and dancing at this celebration. See you there.
