The 2013 World Series continues tonight as the scene shifts from Boston to St. Louis for Game 3. With the next three games scheduled to be played in St. Louis, it’s going to be interesting to see who Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell decides to go with in the field in these crucial games.
With the games now in the "Show Me State," the series will now play by the National League rules which means no designated hitter for the Red Sox – that probably means no David Ortiz (or Mike Napoli) in the line-up.
Ortiz has been red-hot for Boston in the 2013 postseason and the Red Sox can’t afford to sit him, but with the pitcher now having to bat the next three games, it seems that it will be either Big Papi or Mike Napoli who may rotate sitting out a game or two.
That’s something the Sox can’t afford, but they don’t have a choice, and that’s not good news when it comes to facing a surging Cardinals team in St. Louis during the postseason.
According to CBS Sports on Oct. 26 the Cardinals led the NL in scoring while going 54-27 at Busch Staduim in 2013. Add to that St. Louis is 5-1 at home in the playoffs and the last thing the Bosox need is to lose a key player for the pitchers spot in the line-up.
Las Vegas oddmakers have this an even game (-105 each way) with the over/under number set at 7.
Prediction: There is no such thing as momentum when it comes to the World Series. All it takes is one good or bad play to shift the pendulum back in the direction of either one of these team, but the x-factor today is the shift to St. Louis.
