After winning 2 out of 3 in St. Louis, the Red Sox have a 3-2 lead in the best of seven series and could once again become World Champions tonight. Even though Boston ended their nearly 100 year drought without winning a title back in 2004, winning the World Series this year would be the most special one of all.
Boston has won 2 titles (2004, 2007) in the last 9 seasons, but they haven’t won a title at home since 1918 – when Babe Ruth was still in Boston! The Red Sox swept the World Series in 2004 and 2007, starting at home and winning titles at St. Louis and Colorado leaving the fans thrilled but not as thrilled as if they witnessed it themselves!
The players know how special it would be to clinch the Series tonight or tomorrow.
''It would be awesome,'' said John Lackey, who starts Game 6 on Wednesday night against Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha.
On the other side of the coin, the Cardinals know they can stop the momentum and set up a winner take all nail-biter on Halloween night if they can win today. They have their best pitcher going in Michael Wacha, but they will need to score more runs then they have been if they want a Halloween showdown!
Las Vegas odds makers have the Sox as a slight favorite at -118 with the over/under number set at 7.
