The 2013 World Series continues tonight with Game 5 on tap. Just when you think one of these teams has seized the momentum, the other one jumps right back in as if to say – we aren’t done yet!
With the series tied 2-2 both teams will send their ace to the mound tonight in what many fans consider a game that will determine this year’s champion. Sports fans know that when a best-of-seven series is tied 2-2 the winner of game 5 usually wins the series – as in almost always!
The Game 5 winner wins the series 77% of the time in the best-of-seven match-ups in baseball over the past 40 years, so yeah, it’s kind of a big game tonight.
St. Louis will send Adam Wainwright to the hill tonight and you know he will be determined to show that his Game 1 performance wasn’t the way he normally pitches.
According to a CBS Sports report on Oct. 28, Wainwright finished the 2013 regular season at 19-9 with a 2.94 ERA and had only given up one or two runs in six of his first seven career postseason starts prior to allowing all five runs in the first two innings of Game 1.
"I honestly don't know why my mechanics were as bad as they were, my delivery was off as much as it was," Wainwright said of his first career World Series start. "But I feel like I've put a lot of good reps in in front of the mirror, and watching film and feeling my delivery again, learning the basics all over again.
The Sox will combat with Jon Lester who will be trying to beat the Cardinals for the second time in this series.
Vegas odds makers have the Cardinals as the slight favorite at -125 with the over/under number set at 7.
