The 2013 World Series schedule gets underway tonight as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the fall classic from Fenway Park in Boston. This series should be an instant classic as it matches up the two teams that held the best record from each league, something that is actually very rare.
Finishing the 2013 season with identical 97-65 records, Boston earned the home field advantage thanks to the American League winning the 2013 All-Star game.
The pitchers for tonight’s Game 1 will be the best of the best as St. Louis will send Adam Wainwright to the mound tonight vs. Boston’s Jon Lester.
St. Louis may be even stronger hitting wise in the World Series than they were all throughout the 2013 MLB playoffs as a much missed hitter is scheduled to return to the line-up.
According to a Sportsline report on Oct. 23, Cards slugger Allen Craig, who hit a major league-leading .454 with runners in scoring position but hasn't played since Sept. 4 because of sprained left foot, is set to return.
It will be interesting to see if the time off helps or hurts Craig, but either way it should only make the Cards stronger down the stretch.
Las Vegas odds makers have the Red Sox as a slight favorite to win Game 1 at -124 with the over/under number set at 7.
