Game 2 of the 2013 World Series is scheduled for tonight and if it’s anything like Game 1 the series isn’t going to last too long. The Red Sox bombed the Cardinals in Game 1 by the final score of 8-1, but it wasn’t due to bad pitching by St. Louis – the Cardinals just happened to resemble the “Bad News Bears” when they were in the field.
According to a Sportsline report on Oct. 24, St. Louis committed 3 crucial errors in Game 1, leading to 3 unearned Red Sox runs.
Christmas came early for the Red Sox in Game 1, but give credit to Jon Lester.
Lester was given a lead by St. Louis' sloppy play, but he shut down the Red Birds all night long giving up just 5 hits and striking out 8 in 7 2/3 innings. Boston winning Game 1 could be a good sign for the Red Sox faithful. The team that has won Game 1 of the World Series has went on to win it 14 of the past 16 years.
That may be a fact, but don't expect St. Louis to just pack things up. Both will have have to quickly put last night behind them as they head back to the diamond tonight.
Vegas odds makers have the Red Sox as a slight favorite in tonight's Game 2 at -117 with over/under number set at 7.
The Cardinals will send rookie and NLCS MVP Michael Wacha to the mound vs. Red Sox starter John Lackey.
