The world's oldest woman died at the age of 115, according to a Jan. 13 UPI report. Japan's Koto Okubo of Kawaksi died yesterday, but officials have not released her cause of death.
The former world's oldest woman was born on Dec. 24, 1897, and she has been alive to witness an unbelievable amount of change during her 115 years on Earth. Unfortunately, she only held this title for about a month before her death, which is not all that surprising given her advanced age.
Both Koto Okubo and her son lived at the same nursing home, and they enjoyed spending time together. It is great that she was able to spend her last days in the company of her son.
With news of Koto Okubo's death, the world's oldest person is now Jiroemon Kimura of Japan. He is also 115-years-old with a birthday of April 19, 1897. Does it surprise you that so many of the world's oldest people are from Japan?
