Is he crazy? It is Dave's Gourmet after all. Dave Hirschkop, founder and CEO of Dave’s Gourmet has been known to wear a straight jacket at trade shows to get attention for his insanely hot sauces. So perhaps a $1000 white-truffle marinara with edible gold is not so outlandish. Dave’s Gourmet unveiled the world’s most-expensive pasta sauce today (Jan. 28), a $1000 white-truffle marinara to commemorate its 20th anniversary.
While Dave may be crazy enough to make it, will anyone be insane enough to buy it? Interested buyers need to call Dave’s Gourmet to order the white-truffle marinara. Each jar takes approximately six weeks from order to delivery.
The sauce is handmade in Dave Gourmet’s own kitchen and includes some of the world’s most expensive ingredients including imported Italian white truffles and edible gold flakes. Each jar also comes in an antique-handcrafted wooden box bearing the company’s insignia. You won't find it on the shelves.
“The white truffle marinara is a fun and fitting next step in our mission of developing innovative premium products,” said Hirschkop. Dave first pioneered the super-hot sauce category in 1993 with his Insanity Sauce, dubbed “the original hottest sauce in the universe."
In addition to the white-truffle marinara, Dave’s Gourmet will celebrate its 20th anniversary with other events throughout the year including a video program and other online contests aimed at rewarding Dave’s Gourmet’s most loyal and longtime fans with various prizes and acknowledgements. “These events symbolize our continuing commitment to innovate, have fun and grow for the benefit of the consumer, and we are really grateful to our partners and customers for all their support for the past 20 years,” said Hirschkop.
