World's luckiest couple win lottery three times in a month

Winning the lottery is cause for serious celebration, but Calvin and Zatera Spencer have more reason to celebrate than most.

The Spencers, from Portsmouth, Virginia, have hit the jackpot not once, not twice, but three times in the space of just a few weeks.

The couple first hit it big with a $1 million Powerball win earlier this month.

Two weeks later, on March 26, they won $50,000 from a Pick 4 game after purchasing 10 winning tickets.

Chancing his luck a third time, Mr. Spencer stopped at a convenience store the following day after dropping his wife off at an appointment, picked up a scratch card and won another $1 million prize.

“Baby, we did it again," the shocked winner said when he called his wife.

Lottery officials are equally surprised at the couple's unbelievable good fortune.

“I haven’t seen anything like it in my 12 years here,” lottery spokesman John Hagerty told The Virginian Pilot.

“People in the office couldn’t believe it was them when they showed up with the winning ticket.”

Staff at the Norfolk 7-Eleven that sold Mr. Spencer the winning lottery ticket will also be celebrating their customer's good fortune - the store receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the lucky ticket.
