World's largest American wine competition coming to Bay Area (Photos)

National Taste Wine Day arrives on Monday the 18th and you will have the perfect opportunity to celebrate it in style, on the weekend prior to, at the largest competition of American wines in the world! The casual and energetic public tasting can be enjoyed by all levels of wine enthusiasts, or those curious, while they learn new ways to experience wine.

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition was officially designated as the world’s largest competition of American wines in 2007 having 3,800 entries. The competition returns to the Bay Area this year with over 5,500 entries and 60 judges from across the country having the qualifications to decide their fates.

Local to the South Bay Area, Big Dog Winery, mostly specializing in red wine of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety, has entered many of their hand crafted wines over the years and have come back with multiple awards to include Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Best of Class awards. This year their Cabernet Sauvignon entries once again returned with awards of Silver and Bronze.
