A master class for students as well as a piano recital will be held on February 14th. Guest pianist Hilary Demske will be performing at the Eccles Concert Hall in St. George, Utah on Friday, February 14th, 2014 at 7:30 pm, according to KCSG.com who published the report on Feb. 6. The Dixie State University’s Music Department is proud to present the piano recital as well as a master class for students earlier in the day, also in the Eccles Concert Hall, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Both events are open to the public, students, staff and faculty free of charge. If you plan to attend the events, please use the east entrance of the Eccles Center due to another engagement that is being held at Eccles Fine Arts Center.
Demske grew up in Dallas, Texas and presently is the Director of Piano Studies and an assistant professor at Utah Valley University. She received her Ph.D. in Performance at the University of Michigan, Master of Music from The Juilliard School and her Bachelor of Music at The Peabody Conservatory of Music. Demske has also won the highest graduate honor, the Meisterklasse Diploma in performance, in her studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany. Sam Wong, Logan Skelton, Margarita Höhenrieder and Julian Martin are among her principal teachers.
Since 2010, Demske has been a Steinway Artist and her album 'Henry Martin: Selected Piano Music' has received widespread praise among musical critics. She has been featured on Houston Public Radio's "From the Top,” Bavaria's national radio station and many United States’ national radio broadcasts. Fanfare noted of her recitals, "a composer couldn't ask for more committed or convincing performances,” Deseret News described her as, "a pianist of rare technical finesse and musicality” and American Record Guide sees her performance as a "splendid panache and assurance.”
Hilary Demske has publications in Munich Found, the city's largest English language magazine and in December 2011, Scarecrow Press published her “The Pianist’s Craft.” A wide range of international conferences have also featured her writings including a Symposium on Oswald Spengler in Belgium, the Performing Tangier conference in Morocco, the International Bertolt Brecht Conference in Hawaii and the European Piano Teachers Association conference in Serbia. She has also been known to offer private piano lessons in Sydney, Dallas, Houston, NYC and others.
