PAWS Chicago

Who else but PAWS Chicago would attempt to set a world record and do so for the benefit of homeless animals? The world record attempt will take place during the 14th Annual Zoetis Run for Their Lives.

This 8K run/4K walk will give the incentive to not only get out and get healthy, but to do some good for less fortunate animals. To date a crowd of more than 5,000 animal loving athletes and their costumed pooches are expected to attend.

The event will be presented by Unleashed by Petco and Purina Pro Plan. The world record that PAWS Chicago will attempt to break is the WORLD RECORD for “The Most Dogs in Costumed Attire” record. It will be fun to watch!

Thousands of animal-loving participants will run, walk, wag or wiggle down to Montrose Harbor for PAWS Chicago’s 14th Annual Zoetis Run for Their Lives 8K Run & 4K Pet-Friendly walk in support of PAWS Chicago’s mission to build a No Kill city. Prior to the race, canines and their owners will gather for the World Record attempt lasting 15 minutes during which the dogs must remain in costume.

Participants can celebrate and enjoy post-race fun at the Pet Fair and Sponsor Expo which will include live entertainment and two shows by the Purina Pro Plan Performance Team, composed of rescue dogs that will perform disc routines, tricks and maneuvers through agility courses. This family and pet-friendly event will also feature kids’ games, doggie splash pools, a doggie spa, an animal masseuse, and an interactive dog agility course.

PAWS Chicago offers this annual run/walk event because it is an important component for them to fund the life-saving programs they offer at their facility. As a national model in animal sheltering, PAWS Chicago is committed to bringing an end to the killing of homeless cats and dogs in our community. Since its founding in 1997, the number of homeless pets killed in the city has been reduced by 70 percent.

This year alone PAWS Chicago is on-target to find homes for more than 6,000 pets out of its cage-less, state-of-the-art No Kill Adoption & Humane Center, and perform more than 18,000 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries in disadvantaged communities through its Lurie Spay/Neuter Clinic and GusMobile Spay/Neuter Van. PAWS Chicago will use 100 percent of funds raised to continue this life-saving work. Events like this help to cover the cost of what they provide to the public!

So, if you are interested to see if the record is made, want to participate, or simply want to join in on the fun, make sure to mark your calendars for Sunday, June 21st and go to Montrose Harbor at the corners of Montrose Avenue and Simonds Drive (Grove 16) in Chicago. The event begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. and will go to Noon.
