Usually, to see a brand new play premiere for the first time, you'd have to catch the preview performances of a show on it's way to Broadway. This time, however, you can have that chance right here in Winnebago county. Local theatre company Pec Playhouse Theatre has been workshopping and rehearsing a brand new work entitled Waste MisManagement for some months now, and next weekend the show's performances will commence.
The play is written by retired Rockford judge, Dan Doyle. This will be the first play he has written or had performed. Doyle draws on his own life experiences to craft a legal caper worthy of Law & Order... well, maybe if the leads were played by the Three Stooges. The show is a comedy through and through, with plenty of humor and slapstick as lawyer and lead character J. B. Hornsby sets out to prove his client innocent of murder. Run-ins with a bizarre psychic, a ruthless mob hitman, a mysterious observer with a penchant for hiding in garbage receptacles, and other wild, larger-than-life characters will keep the audience entertained from start to finish. As the story unfolds, some characters may not be what you think they are, and it becomes apparent that Honsby is part of a larger scheme that even includes the ghost of the murder victim.
Doyle isn't the only one making a debut with Waste MisManagement. Jamie Button, a familiar face to area theatregoers from his many roles with companies like PPT and Artists' Ensemble, is making his debut in the director's chair with this production. He has a team of talented and experienced Pec Playhouse veterans backing him up as he helms his first directorial endeavor, so the show is looking to impress.
