Today Pope Francis announced a day of prayer and fasting. The Pope’s plea to the United States and world leaders to re-think violence to combat violence is an usual stance for Vatican City. The Franciscan monk turned Pope is a humanitarian and is known as “the people’s Pope”. With this world wide outreach the time has come for all faith organizations to begin to work together to accomplish the mission of world peace.
The world holds its breath, worried about the civil war in Syria. Those who continue to harbor hate and practice genocide are literally poisoning the body and soul of the women and children in Syria as they poison the world with hate and political rhetoric. Today is a good reminder that all faiths are now in accord with the desire to live in peace.
While we debate issues of national policy, the right to medical services for all, the need to stop shattering families in the immigration xenophobia, maybe it is time for the world to stop…pray…meditate…hug the neighbor you do not like and breath in love, peace and harmony for America and for the world.
