Monday, Blizzard Entertainment released a teaser video for the “World of Warcraft” patch 5.2: The Thunder King. Players have already caught a glimpse of the Zandalari trolls in the far northern region of the Kun-Lai Summit in Pandaria. In patch 5.2, the ancient tribe is going to bring back Lei Shen, the Thunder King. Players will fight him in The Throne of Thunder and also experience a new quest hub: The Isle of the Thunder King. The Isle looks to take the idea of the mixed PVP/PVE hub in Krasarang Wilds to the next level.
It's fitting that with the Thunder King will come thunder lizards–dinosaurs. Dino mounts aren't just for the Horde anymore. New ground and flying mounts with troll armor will likely be rewards for raids and reputation.
Mount collectors don't have to wait for the next patch for something to get excited about. The Blizzard Store put the Swift Windsteed up for sale Tuesday. The Windsteed looks somewhat like a talbuk and is supposed to be inspired by a “Chinese unicorn” kirin or qilin, which seems odd since there is already something called a quilen mount in the game. It's got an exciting animation, but players seem to either love or hate the steed.
There is a question whether mounts are really worth $25 anymore. The appeal used to be that you paid once for a mount that all of your characters shared, but now that most mounts are account-wide, perhaps Blizzard will consider lowering the cost. Well, probably not.
