World of Warcraft is no longer the king

After previous reports of massive droppings in subscribers and after years of dominance, World of Warcraft is no longer the king, in terms of active players. After the recent declining number of players, there are currently 10.3 million World of Warcraft subscribers. The crown has now been passed with the recent reports of League of Legends surpassing 11 million active players, with 4 million playing every day.

Although League of Legends is a free-to-play title, this is still an event to be reckoned with. This is something that may also engage some type of reaction from Blizzard. In the past months, it has been reported that there has been a drop of 800,000 subscribers from World of Warcraft. With the emergence of popular MMOs going free-to-play, and now with League of Legends overtaking World of Warcraft in active players, this may invoke a change in subscription model with World of Warcraft.
