The month of June, what’s not to love? June is the month that officially kicks off the summer season, school is out (along with the sunshine), the days are longer, and it is also one of the most popular months for weddings; perhaps due to the fact that June was named for the Roman goddess of marriage, Juno. Butt, I mean but… according to a K-Earth 101 News report on June 3, the month of June is also known throughout 75 cities, and more than 20 countries world-wide, as the time when you can strip down, as “bare as you dare,” and ride your bike through your participating city, in celebration of the annual “World Naked Bike Ride.”

The annual World Naked Bike Ride 2014 is taking place in cities all over the world, including: Chicago, LA, Portland, Montreal, Toronto, Spain and Mexico, just to name a few.

The World Naked Bike Ride began as a protest against our dependence on fossil fuels and also as a pro-biking rally in 2004. Their mission was to: call attention to the vulnerability of cyclists everywhere, protest against carbon emitted by motor vehicles, and reduce the negative environmental impacts we make on our planet, by making us less dependent on oil, along with the suggestion to make the shift to a healthier lifestyle and body image.

Festivals, parades and celebrations will be happening all over the world beginning this weekend and every weekend during the month of June. If you plan on participating in a World Naked Bike Ride celebration there are a few things you may want to have on hand.

1. Water
2. Sunscreen
3. Costumes
4. Body Paint
5. Signs for yourself and your bike
6. Footware
7. Helmet
