Mariah Carey has a reputation of being late. The 20104 World Music Awards were celebrating the best of the music business on Tuesday night, but the organizers got a taste of what it was like to be dealing with a diva. The artist opened the show in Monaco with a performance of new song "Meteorite" prior to picking up the Pop Icon Award, but it was her tardiness that held up the show. According to The Denver Channel on Wednesday, the star was massively late to the show.
Conflicting reports suggest that the diva was one or two hours late to the show which halted production of the filming until she arrived. As the star was the life of the party (and getting a big award) the show had little to do but wait for the artist to arrive.
Not only did the show, the audience and staff of the World Music Awards wait, so did the stars who were also part of the program. There were stars like Miley Cyrus and Ricky Martin who ended up altering their schedules as they already were at the venue and were ready to perform
So what was this hold up on Mariah Carey’s part? Nobody knows for sure and even the World Music Awards organizers were clueless on the issue of her delay. Apparently the star was on her own time and decided to show up when she was ready. However, her tardy action did reflect badly as she held everyone else up and made headlines in Monaco
While the idea of Mariah Carey being late is hardly surprising, it appears that her actions have shocked the fans. Previously, Carey has been late to fan events and ceremonies, but never anything as drastic as a taped award show where she was being honored.
The “World Music Awards” are scheduled to air Wednesday night on NBC.
